Event photographer learning to build fast galleries
About me
At weekends I take photos at weddings and school events. I wanted to show my work without slow, heavy pages, so I started learning HTML and CSS. These days I enjoy the code as much as the camera.
My work
Photo Gallery with CSS Grid
A gallery of my street photos that shows more columns on wide screens and one column on a phone. Every photo has alt text that describes what you see.
- CSS Grid
- Responsive design
- HTML
- Image optimisation
Sign-up Form for a Beginners' Photo Walk
A registration form for a free photo walk I want to lead. I used radio buttons, a select list and a textarea, each with its own label.
- HTML
- Forms
- CSS
My learning journey
- First page: an image with alt text and a caption
- Learned when to use figure and figcaption
- Built a photo gallery with CSS Grid that changes columns on a phone
- Added a JavaScript button that shows and hides the captions
- Made my images smaller so my website loads fast on mobile data
